Re: BlueJacket Sailing Logs
I've been studying the Mexican coastline/anchorages via satellite images and just saw a great image showing wave refraction. In a wider view of this area, the wind/waves are out of the due north (going top to bottom). As the waves get close to the coastline, they refract and end up coming in parallel to the shore, so despite having a piece of land providing "protection", you still have waves coming ashore.

Yup...remember, all that water is still seeking its own level. If the waves didn't "bend" around and "fill up the empty space", all the water in that protected lee of the point in the photo would be scavenged away by the waves passing at right angles. The same thing causes waves which approach direcltly onshore all along the "South Coast" of California around Santa Barbara (where the beach runs east & west)...even though the "west-to-east" waves have the fetch of the entire width of the Pacific Ocean in which to build up.

Re: BlueJacket Sailing Logs
BlueJacket finally got shipped today. She was supposed to have been picked up last Thursday, but the preceding boat was 2 days late. Now we'll probably end up sitting around San Diego for 4 days waiting for the boat to arrive on Monday. Ah, the best laid plans....

Thanks George. Unfortunately she's stuck in the midwest, unable to move because of the high winds...Now we're hoping for a Monday delivery.

Wow, coupled with permitted loads only running during daylight hours (and the days are shorter now) I can see that. Dang, more time wasted in a hotel playing the waiting game. You will be happy to be aboard. You wait too long and we will be heading south around the same time, just opposite coasts.

Re: BlueJacket Sailing Logs
BlueJacket got splashed yesterday. This photo shows it being lifted by a 300 ton travel lift. Note that most of the time we get lifted by a 25-35 ton lift. We felt like a dwarf in this lift! The boat was in great shape other than some chaffing on the mast where a ratchet on a hold-down strap rubbed through the paint and some carbon fiber. It was a long, 11 hour day...but we've made great progress.
