Underway!

Post by THATBOATGUY »

At long last we are officially underway. :) We left the dock in Alms House Creek around 9:30 PM last night and arrived here in Gleeb Bay about an hour later to pick up a mooring that belongs to a friend. First day's progress about 2 miles... heh heh But a giant leap nevertheless. The new enclosure and sail packs are really nice! We may launch the dink to go for an after dinner walk soon and will post a few pictures if we do. Although If I don't get some deck stowage stuff squared away the pictures will have to wait till tomorrow. For now we are content with a cozy propane cabin heat, the turkey about to go in the oven, clinky drinks, nuts, olives, cheese... really roughing it! :)

Congrats! Interesting day to start your cruising. But, it must feel good to get underway. That first step is a big one. What are your plans?

Hey Geoff,

For now we go down to Florida where we hope to spend about a month in Sebastian. Then the Southern Bahamas and hope to catch the Abacos on our way back North in the spring. After that, back here and then we *hope* to do Europe either by Bermuda/Azores or the North route via Nova Scotia etc...

Frankly that takes us well beyond what we have ever been able to stick to. This winter is a test.

Hello George,

Keep an eye out for Ketch 22 on the way south. She's currently at Isle Of Hope Marina in Georgia. We'll be leaving mid December for parts south. My not to ambitious goal is Panama by February.

Ketch 22 is hull number 22 in the F39 Freedom Express line. The most complete description is at

www.ketch-22.com

I sailed out the Golden Gate and "turned left" as they say in San Francisco in 2006. I am beginning my voyage back to the west coast in December.

I'll keep an eye out for Marquesa along the way.

We will be leaving Elizabeth City in the wee hours. Finally got a good weather report for crossing the sound. Met some great folks and fellow late travelers here. Had our first cruiser pot-lock etc... :)

We had a nice visit to Oriental and we are now tucked into Spooner Creek for the night while this front goes through.
