6th Annual The St. Petersburg Classic Regatta
The regatta for Good Old Boats, 20 years old or more

Just for boats more than twenty years old makes it just the event for most of our Freedoms.
My Boat was raced by a previous owner but even with new sails he did not find success.
I havent raced...since well before my current 1981 Freedom 28 Cat Ketch was born.
Sounds like a recipe for fun, but not likely hardware.

The race is Sponsored by the Saint Petersburg Sailing Association and Raymarine is the financial sponsor. This is a charity event for meals on wheels...
Meals on Keels is the cry from the crows nest. http://www.spyc.org/files/2015%20st%20p ... %20NOR.pdf

sailing instructions and based on SPSA traditions.
First Warning 1100

Sunday is the “rain date”; otherwise there will be a fun sail for all interested yachts.

Interested? Could this be the Florida Freedom Gathering?

(My brother tells me he met the owner skipper of a Freedom 40 just refit in the Florida Keys who is sailing it to its new home in Saint Pete next month.)

Looks like a Freedom 33 Eleuthra and our Freedom 28 Clave' will be sailing along with 45 other good old boats. I note that we are the second smallest of the cruising class boats, yet have a top third rating. We will be giving time to most of the forty footers!

looks like 3 Freedoms in fleet of 55 entries! My cruising class competition includes A Palmer Johnson 43. One of the prettiest boats ever.
See you tomorrow night.

Great race. Rafted with Freedom 35 Eleuthra. A beautiful boat. Saw Freedom 30 at start only. I won!---a raffle prize. We had fun. The participants raIsed over $20,000 for the meals on wheels charity so the community was a winner. Light winds. St Petersburg Yacht Club and Sailing Association were great host.
Great fun sailing home today with Palmer Johnson 43 and aWylie 30. PJ 43 passed me under spinnaker then I passed them back when they carved the sand with their keel.
Great weekend. My first race in 42 years. Not last place.

My brother called me to say be Southwinds magazine had photos and the story on the St Peterburg Classic sailboat race. The story included a few photos. Two of the photos were two of the three freedoms involved in the race. Southwinds magazine is available has a free online and PDF download.

It was the sixth year of the annual event. They plan to do it again next year. A major fund raiser for the local meals on wheels. It was first known as the Good Old Boat Regatta with the magazine of the same name being an organizer sponsor the first few years.
Very fun. Nice Yacht Club, great sailing association. Restaurants are located a walk from down town and hotels walking distance as well. Fun group. Beer social on the dock. Breakfast at the sailing center. Nice dinner at the yacht club. Low key racing...especially back where I was...

I trailered down to to Davis Island YC (Tampa side of the bay) to sail with my sister and her husband over the Fourth of July week back in 2013. This looks like it would be a fun trip. I could launch a DIYC and sail over the day before the race. What do race and mooring fees run for the weekend? I need to make my plans now for 2016.
