Hi Crossjack,
Feronia had a good start but I think we really should have had a reef in earlier. The new main certainly has some power to it. We had to reef before the Hurst narrows as it was really funnelling through there. We peaked at 14.5 knots on a surf round by St. Catherine's and that was after we had broken our Vang (metal fatigue the boom end broke away fully) and we had to jury rig a kicker to maintain some control of the main. We saw Liberty (the other F33) at the and the start and then again by the needles. We didn't see her again until we saw her ahead of us as we neared the finish. In the end we clawed our way past to finish the boat in from of her as we crossed the line. We were half a boat length ahead when we crossed. For some reason she is rated as faster and was in class 6a rather than our 6c.
It was an exciting race
Feronia.
