Freedom 28

Post by Paladdo »

Hi all

I am contemplating the purchase of a Freedom 28. Any information about things to look for before spending big $ on a surveyor would be appreciated. Also, input about the boats sailing qualities, quirks, good points and bad points would be appreciated. THANKS!

Hi, Pallado! Welcome to our group.
What year and model of F28 you are looking to buy?
There are 1977-1980 Freedom 28 Cat Ketch with centerboard
1980-1984 Freedom 28 Cat Ketch with fixed keel.
And, I believe, 1985-1990 Freedom 28 sloop.

s/v "NEMO" - Freedom 28 Cat Ketch centerboard

Which Freedom 28 are you looking at? I have had a Mull-designed '87 Freedom 28, sailing in Neuse River/Pamlico Sound area of NC. If you live near, you can check out the mods I've done to make it better.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

This old girl is a 1987 F 28. She looks to be in pretty good condition. Here is the URL for the Yachtowrld listing:

I Also looked at a 1982 F 33. This one is not in as good a condition as the 28 but it may be a possibility. My wife and I mostly day sail and take one or two cruises per season along the coast of CT . Here's the URL for the F 33:

Opinions welcome!

Thanks for your kind offer hxschiller! I live on Long Island, NY so NC is a bit of a trip right now, but if I do buy the F 28 I will sure want to hear more about what mods you have done to yours.
