I am confused while searching for a new boat. I have read that the 38 was in fact a 36 with sugar scoop. The 38 should then have a higher speed and the same accommodations?
Some authors mentioned that some F. were "slugs". How are the relative speeds of these 3 models?
When did TPI start to build them? Is there a difference in construction, are they stronger or more "serie-like" than the originals?
Some other authors wrote that the distance between the cabin-top and the wheel makes them uneasy to single hand? Did anyone modify the layout to facilitate this aspect?

According to the PHRF ratings there are substantial differences between these boats. Refer to the attached ratings for approximations. Bear in mind that these are for races which will include considerable windward work which are not our boat's forte. The lists are sorted by the "high" value. The slowest 36 at 156 compared to the 35 at 123 means about 5 minutes difference after 10 miles or about 1/2 nautical mile if the average peed is 5 knots (if my math is right).

Hmmm Seems Gary Mull designed the 38' built in 1986. It seems that the 36 is also designed by Mull, but without the sugar scoop. It also seems that these boats had a limited aft cabin.

Sailing on Long Island sound, a couple of degrees close to the wind make a difference. I was used to a Carter 33, really great to point with! I sometimes got "beaten" by Freedoms, but i do not remember which ones. And definitely, the Schooner was impressive, but in another leaugue by itself.
Is there any record of long range sailing with a 35 ?

On my 35 I have both a self-tacking 90 and a conventional 135. Using the 135 improves pointing ability quite a bit. The ease of sailing with the self-tacker is nice but if you are looking for upwind performance go with a 35 with a Genoa. Most of the 35's came with the 90 but there are a few with the (optional) 135.
Also, the 35 came in both a cherry and a teak interior. I believe that the teak was an option as well. Mine is teak. It is a really nice lighter shade of teak.
The aft cabin has an athwartship, or trasverse aft cabin berth.
