Eum..glycerine. Or is that petroleum based? I use a stick from the auto shop that's used to prevent car door rubbers from freezing to the body.

I've been doing some research and it appears that silicon grease is recommended. I have some but it crystalized (?) and has lots of rough particles in it. I'm trying to get a new container.

I use silicon grease a lot for all sorts of sealing and greasing jobs. The big drawback is that it remains sticky forever and therefore attracts dirt. I would not want it on my hatch rubbers. If you accidentally touch the rubber, your hands are dirty.

Try PTFE spray. The company I work for sell one, and I think McLube is probably the same sort of formualtion. It is a dry lubricant, doesn't attract the crap.
