F25 winged spar bearing info

Post by yarrow »

I thought people would be interested to learn from what I did this past season. In the spring I did a full winged spar bearing service upper and lower, when I pulled the rig in the fall I found some interesting facts.

Upper bearing: I replaced the teflon bearing, but when I pulled the spar I found the bearing had failed and the stainless ring on the spar had moved and been wedged causing the rig not be be able to pull out. This resulted in me cutting material and having the spar tube to be pulled out with the spar.

Lower bearing: All is good, the bearing grease looked good and seals looked good.

cheers,

Yarrow, how thick is the material you used to replace the teflon bearing ring? It should not be more than 1/16 inch thick. I will be relining two top bearings in the spring using 1/16 bondable Teflon. (McMaster-Carr 8711K13) This material is etched on one side to improve bonding. I plan to use Locktite Black Max 380 as adhesive.
