F36/38 Exterior grabrails

Post by brico »

Hi,
i have never attempted removing interior headliner so i do not know what was the method used to attach exterior grabrails. i'd like to remove them for sanding and varnishing. are they screwed in or 3M 5200 used to glue them on? Any leads are welcome.

On my 1997 40/40 they're screwed in. Mine were in good shape, so I decided that I would do extensive damage trying to get the bung out and just left them in place. It appears that they were finished in place as the finish is smooth over the bungs.

Unless they are leaking I would leave them. You otherwise may wind up replacing your headliner as well as your grab rails. Suggest you refinish them and make yourself some grabrail covers.
