My F38 has a painting rod. Now I know what it is called and what it does. Anyone still need pictures of attachment points?
F40 center cockpit - no rod. Halyards attach to a mast collar. I think Hans is correct in his description of the purpose of the rod. I have a similar setup on my other boat on my forestay which mounts to the deck about a foot back from the deck. Below deck there is a tang that continues at the same angle towards the bow.
