I have my mast down for other maintenance, but wanted to clean/replace my masthead lights and sockets. The old bulbs are plenty corroded, and can only read ".7" on one side. They appear to be about 1 1/4" long, and most of the bulbs this size are either 1 1/8 or much longer... any other help would be appreciated... my main question is this a 10 watt or 8 watt bulb? 8 watts would draw about .7 amps.

They need to be at least 25 watts to be legal on your boat size. 10 watts is for boats under 6 meters / 18'.

I would suggest looking at replacing them with LED based lights. Much lower power draw and they last for a long, long time.

There have been several tests lately of LED navigation lights in European yachting magazines.
If you want LED, buy a complete unit including the housing and lenses. Replacement LED bulbs cannot be used in lens units designed for glow bulbs (with the glow wire in the exact center of the lens system). Therefore, LED bulbs give far too much crossover on the front between red and green; a 6 degree hazy area with an undefined color. And they change the green to a pale blue and the red also changes into an out of spec color. For anchor lights, LED bulbs are fine. Orca Green appears to be the major US manufacturer of good LED nav lights.

I would consider having your yard hoist someone up with their crane to do the job. Rather than a bulb replacement you may need a new light. Difficult problem to assess unless you are ABOVE the top of the mast. Do maintenance on the ground. Pay for this.

My anchor light has been out for several years. I hang an anchor light in the lazyjacks.
