Active-X/Active-XS RTE

Post by GeoffSchultz »

I just ordered an Active-X RTE (Radar Target Enhancer) http://www.echomax.co.uk/Echomax_Products.htm, which is a device which transmits a radar pulse when it receives one. This massively increases the visibility of your boat. I got a good chuckle from the 1995 radar report (http://www.ussailing.org/safety/Studies ... r_test.htm)which described my current 2" Mobri reflector as
The smaller Mobri is invisible under all conditions, and, with its minimal windage, might make a nice addition for the Stealth Bomber.
The Active-X RTE will provide about a 350x increase over the Mobri.

Good choice. On most ocean races this side of the big pond these devices are required under race rules. Sea-me, competitor of the Echomax Active-X recently launched an RTE that works on both X and S band radar. I'm waiting for Echomax (which is the technically more advanced one of the two) to launch a dual band RTE because I'm sure race rules will be changed as soon as there are two products on the market.

Like Michel, I'm waiting for the Active-XS version, which includes both X and S band. It's awaiting FCC approval and I'm on a ship list as soon as it gets it.
