F32 battery box rebuild

Post by tnltracy »

Getting a few projects done early this year. Found the battery box and sole below to be quite soft in areas, so rebuilt and setup to handle the group 29 batteries without a shoehorn.

New pressure treated tray, and center piece below base of the companionway, and added pressure treated 1x3s for support. Cut a notch out of the aft wall in order to allow the batteries to slide straight in as they wouldn't otherwise make it u dear the companionway steps.

Neat work. Looks like a great fit too. Remind us of what batteries you've installed. (Is that a house bank of three 12v batteries in parallel, or is one your starting battery?).
Thanks.

I have 2 group 29s for my house bank, and a group 24 as a backup starter. The 29s are quite snug between the step and back of the box, so the grounds all come up over the 24 on port side where there's about an inch of space.

Just ordered a bus bar for all of the grounds which I'll attach to the back of the step above the batteries I think

Wow...great pics.

I am contemplating this repair/upgrade this year with my F32.

I would love to see a diagram of how you re-wired. It seems that the cables are so tight that a bus is such a great idea. Not sure what the yellow wires are, how it all hooks up.

Any notes on cable replacement, suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks,
