I took my voltmeter to Sam's Club and bought trolling motor batteries for $70 a piece. You want to make sure all the batteries you buy show exactly the same voltage and it should be higher than 12.6. So far this bank of four has lasted since 2011 with extensive cruising and never adding water. I went this way after having a dockmate unplug me when both my hot water heater and my space heater were running, my new batteries were toast in 25 minutes, (thanks to the inverter). I was surprised at the variation of voltages in the brand new batteries. I think it's real important to get them matched.
