Duramax cutlass

Post by daletournier »

Hi, fitting a new cutlass bearing. Couldn't source one here in Malaysia so I'm getting a Duramax sent DHL from Australia. The man who has sold it to me who I believe to be very experienced as told me to fit it as a clearance fit (lose fit)locking it in place with a epoxy on only the first inch of bearing or tap to holes in it for the grub screws to hold firmly in place. I've only used interference fit bearings before which are pressed or hammered in.
I'm a little nervous about just the grub screws although he assures me its fine. He has 60 years bearing experience .
Has anyone else done it this way?
Cheers Dale
