Thanks Bill and Bill- My boat is at Emery Cove Marina. Hopefully this Friday I'll be there and try the linkage test with motor off. Let you know. Thank again.

Happy New Years

Went out today - took the air filter off and ran the neutral test again - motor ran up the 3600 plus (could have kept going). I don't think the air filter would have prevented that but who knows?). Changed oil, replaced racor, fuel, oil filters, bled motor and all looks good. Happy here

Sounds like better RPM #s. Extremely dirty air filter could restrict, but doubtful the manner you reported. However, fuel starved system might. RACOR that was stuffed with gunk or if air in injectors.

When we were going through problems with our engine, neutral tests didn't provide a true indicator of problem. Had to 'load test', e.g. run the engine in gear. Of course, not advisable in a harbor full of boats that don't have car bumpers. :D

Was told to make sure dock lines were secure, cleats robust enough to handle, then drop boat into gear. Definitely draws more fuel and in our case, clogged a tiny screen in fuel tank tube. After many eyes on the engine, a simple little metal screen in diesel fuel tank 'straw' turned out to be the culprit.
