Banjo washer F-29

Post by amcclung »

I have the odor of fuel in the cabin. I called a mechanic and he came recommended replacing a banjo washer on the fuel line going to the fuel pump.

My question is, what is that? How difficult is it to do?

Easy to do. Banjo washers are small, compressable copper (crush) washers that create a seal where fuel lines are attached to various components of your diesel engine. You can purchase bag of washers from diesel parts supply. Need to be sure to tighten the fitting enough to create a good seal but not enough to crush the washer so thoroughly that it leaks. You will need to identify which washer or fitting is leaking - best done by touching the bottom of each fitting to see which one has a drop of diesel fuel on it. if you google banjo fitting, you can see pictures
