Original engine running hours?

Hi, As some may have noted i have listed my 1986 F36 for sale with original Yanmar 3GM30F running strong even after 3400 hours. Just done the oil sample analysis which returned with excellent results. What sort of hours are you guys having out there on your original engines? The dealer is a bit scep...

Re: Coaming seat modification on F36/38

Hi Jim, Thank you. This is great idea and I can male this myself over the winter months. I really struggled to and from Desolation sound this summer where most of the time I motor due to lack of wind. I see the front fastener is same as lifeline one with quick disconnect/open latch. How easy is it t...

Coaming seat modification on F36/38

Hi, On my 1986 F36/38 i had a pretty good view sitting at the nicely rounded coaming and railing extruded backwards to lean against. Now that I have fitted my Raymarine C120 chart plotter above the compass binnacle, my view from that sitting position is gone and I either have to stand to see clearly...

Re: Rivet dimensions for boom on F38

Thew thickness of the boom wall is maximum 1/8" but i believe even less than that. That is plenty anyway. I have installed the Garhauer rigid boom vang last spring and initially used 3/16" aluminium rivets which have eventually failed in strong wind. Then I went with 1/4" SS rivets but needed specia...

Lofrans Leopard windlass failed

Hi, On my 1986 F36 Lofrans Leopard windlass failed. Mortor is running but shaft and gypsy is not turning. I suspect the worm gear or the other one in the case under deck is either worn out or something broken. There was no indication of trouble and I only changed one foot switch on the deck last yea...

Re: Boom topping lift

I guess those sailing on F25 cannot appreciate the size and weight of 17 Ft long boom which is understandable. So "the 2 small blocks built into the masthead, they can be used for a flag halyard, but I believe they were actually included to provide for an emergency (temporary) main halyard" those bl...

Re: Boom topping lift

I guess it is not only remembering or forgetting to do this prior lowering the main sail but also the fact that I would prefer to do this from inside the cockpit as I do a lot of singlehandling. Boomkicker largest mmodel would not ba able to effectively suupport the 17 ft long boom and main sail onb...
