Re: f30 shaft seal

Yes, the boats changed quite a bit as they came up with new/different fittings, etc. I look at some pics of later hulls and often think "why didn't I get that cool thing". They did not seem to make much progress on opening up space for shaft seals though. Another two inches would make a big differen...

Re: Simplifying camberspar rigging

I apologize. You are correct. I was so excited about my new method I forgot about the fender washer needed at the grommet. The locking pin handle does the trick on one side but you do need to retain a fender washer for the other side. This washer is pressed home after the pin is inserted through the...

Re: Jib without the camberspar

Bill, One thing you could do for me if you happen to have the spar off the boat. As mentioned, I have bent my camberspar...several times...I would really like to get a sense for the original "chord" of the spar and its shape. I have contacted Paul Dennis at Warren Isle BW and he indicates he built o...

Re: f30 shaft seal

Here is a short video describing my installation https://youtu.be/Yr2B1ThStGU With regard to the exact parts https://lasdrop.com/index.php/dryseal/ this is the type of seal I have installed, however, there is only one barb on my seal. This is per mfg. recommendation due to low shaft speed. It is a d...

Re: Simplifying camberspar rigging

Sounds great! Is the 8 mm pin the correct size? No! Check your set up first. I would not be surprised to see a variety of bolt diameters. The pins are available in a lot of lengths and diameters. My objective for the post was to highlight the idea. If you are game, be sure to measure everything (di...

Simplifying camberspar rigging

At one point or another most of us have bemoaned the awkward process of removing the camberspar from the forstay. I have been trying some hardware in an effort to simplify setup such that I dont need three hands and a tail to hold on to all the bits. So I decided to replace the bolt and nylock with ...

Re: f30 shaft seal

Grant, late evening here so I will get some info for you tomorrow. I will also take a few pics or maybe a video so you can see my set up which may or may not be the same as yours. I imagine it will be close. What hull number is your boat? Mine is #3 so there were a lot of tweaks and mods after mine ...

Re: Jib without the camberspar

Sounds like maybe the fore stay is too loose? Should not be rubbing on the pupit unless the pulpit has been modified. The camberspar imparts sail shape at all points of sail (I just recently figured out how it works after 23 years of ownership). A batten is not going to hack it. Having said that, no...

Re: mast wedge help

Just FYI, about a month ago I sailed a 400 mile solo offshore passage. 200 miles out from SF in very sloppy seas and then turned around and came back. Wind was 5-25knts. The mast was pretty much silent and proved that the noise WAS coming from the partners and not the mast base. This was with the n...
