A flock of Freedom 30s at Berkeley Marine Center
Wow, Three Freedom 30s (one may be a 28) at Berkeley Marine Center! That's a first time I've seen so many 30s in one place. There was a fourth Freedom there but she was a larger boat. Two of the 30s were out of the water, one at the dock. I am one of the two on the hard. The other boat on jacks is b...

Re: 3GM30 Manual -
My 2gm20 manual is on the boat but I think it covers 3gm20 as well. I can confirm that. If so I could take it to Kinkos and copy it for you. Not sure how much that would cost these days but I would do it if you ran out of other options. I think the whole service manual is about 200 double sided page...

Re: Camber spar patent #4,503,796
Mark, last sentence of your post is right on. I finally understood that as we get closer to the wind and sheet in we are taking draft out of the sail. Duh on me. I also remeasured the draft and I am around 14 inches. If I use the formula CS length in inches ( mine is 96) then multiply by 13% you win...

Re: OMG he is talking about the camberspar again and needs help
Hey Mike, A few things: 1. Paul tells me that according to Dave Bierig, Freedom used tubing that was a size smaller than what he had spec'd. He's not sure why. The camberspar that came with my first Freedom had a quite severe curve in it, and I think that that has to do with the lighter duty tube b...

Re: OMG he is talking about the camberspar again and needs help
Thank you guys very much for the excellent information. I had not seen the article Geoff had posted, that is really helpful. I have see bits of this write up but not the whole story. How the heck much is there to learn about this darn rig. Jeeze, it seems like I am working on a Phd or something. Cou...

OMG he is talking about the camberspar again and needs help
Sorry about this obsession with the camberspar, but here is another request for one of my Freedom 30 owning colleagues. If you have an original Camberspar, I would be really interested in the "chord" of the spar on your boat. I would like to confirm the rebending of my spar was done correctly. This ...

Re: the most lost bit on a Freedom
BTW, if you do not make any mods, the standard retaining clip can be purchased from Paul D as others have pointed our. Failing that, they are available on e-bay (somewhat surprisingly) although not particularly cheap with shipping added. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=camberspar&ssPageName=GSTL.

Re: Camber spar
The wrap this topic up I have confirmed the longer "tacking arm" (that is what the patent calls it) must be affixed to the sheet and the small loop affixed to the topping lift. OK, now I know what everyone else knew years ago. Reading the patent gave a much better understanding of how this thing is ...
