Paul Dennis Article in Aug 2019 "Points East"

I happened to be in Portland (ME) in August and a colleague who also sails naturally picked up a copy of the free boating rag "Points East" to browse the scene. I had spied a F25 a bit like mine in the mooring field off the Fort at the east end of town, and had pointed it out to my colleague. I gues...

Re: Digests were not sent

Has anyone else not been receiving digests recently?

I have checked my "junk" folder on my end and don't see them there.

Also tried changing from weekly to daily frequency as a test.

Re: Freedom 25 update

Although this is an old thread, I got a request to post some photos of how I installed a boomkicker on my F25. This was ten years ago, and the epoxy bond is holding strong! 0817091608.jpg 0817091606.jpg 0817091606a.jpg I used a 7" dado blade at a 12 deg angle to produce the cove cut that matches the...

F25 Spinnaker Sleeve

I noticed in a recent thread ("Spinnaker Experience") that F32Circle is still looking for specs on a spinnaker sleeve. Searching the forum, it looks like he originally posted his request about a year ago in "Freedom 32 Parts Sale," and that in that thread Grimsby_Alan later posted that he is looking...

Re: Lazy Jacks issue

The combination of a boom-kicker to hold up the boom, and bungees to pull the lazy jacks forward to the mast when loose, has worked well for me. There is thread "Freedom 25 Update" with photos and discussion of this, and some other things, here: http://www.freedomyachts.org/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1206...

Re: what to look for when surveying a F25

When I've re-bedded the fittings, I've cleared out an inch or so of core around the hole. I haul the boat every winter and cover it. This allows for the area I've opened to dry out for 2-3 months, before refilling with epoxy, and re-drilling the hole.

Re: what to look for when surveying a F25

Regarding hull blisters: I'm the 3rd owner of my '84 F25 (hull #206). At sale, PO indicated he had to do some blister mitigation when he bought it in '95. After fixing the blisters, he applied an epoxy barrier coat. I bought it in 2007, and after 3 years I had the entire bottom soda blasted and appl...

Re: Bringing Outhaul back to winches

I have made this modification on my F25, and it was well worth the effort, which was not insubstantial. On the F25, there is a slot in the bottom of the boom, just behind the attachment for the vang. Up inside the slot (in the boom) there is a 4:1 arrangement of blocks, fiddle, and becket that attac...

Re: Odd mainsail shape - advice?

It also looks to me like the battens may be too long, and/or are holding too much compression. Maybe the sail was much stiffer when new and could support a lot more batten compression. Depending on how the battens are secured, you may be able to reduce the compression. On the mainsail Haarstick buil...

Re: Masthead LED for Freedom 25 non-winged

If your setup is same as mine, I have one of the Perko combination masthead and anchor lights (see attachment). I was able to replace the bulbs with 2x Dr. LED "Festoon Star." However, it was not installed with the DPDT switch called out in the attachment, so in fact I had no anchor light capability...
