Mast paint

I have owned F 40/40 #16 for 15 years. The first winter I laid her up, I did a bad thing: I tied the lazy jacks tight to the starboard side of the mast for the winter, which caused the blocks to chip away at the mast paint. Subsequent years, I tied them to the mid aspect of the boom to prevent a rep...

Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe

I just realized that I never followed up my post on the jib halyard chafing from 2 years ago. My rigger removed the masthead jib halyard block and found the wheel was broken with sharp edges which were cutting the jib. He was able to replace the wheel and it has been fine since

Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe

At the end of the season we removed the jib halyard block apparatus at the mast head and found that the block itself was broken and that there were very sharp edges cutting the jib. We rebuilt the whole apparatus with a new block. We will be putting the sails on in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that ...

Re: Freedom sail replacement Is there a consensus is there a consensus

I believe Quantum bought out the company that made the original Freedom sails and have the original patterns and make a lot of freedom replacements. I had mine made one year ago by Quantum in Rochester New York and are very happy with them. What a tremendous difference the new sales made compared to...

Re: Dinghy Mounts for F38

Sounds good Josh. I do not know your boat and did not realize your davits were not Kato. Glad your setup does not have sway. I do see a lot of people improperly use davits, such as hanging their inflatables about 2 or more feet from the davits, allowing it to swing freely. I would not want that. Bil...

Re: Dinghy Mounts for F38

Bill, Attached are a few photos. I absolutely love my davits and would never want to tow again. There is never a concern about the tow line when motoring, sailing or docking. I takes me no more than 5 minutes to raise and secure the inflatable onto the davits and about 2 minutes to launch. However, ...

Lithium ion batteries

I have 1995 40/40 #16: I have to replace my batteries this year due to their age and not holding charge. This will be my third replacement in 15 summers with the boat. I have three house 4D AGM's (200Ah each x 3 = 600Ah) and a group 31 AGM starter battery and monitor them with a Victron. We commonly...

Re: Freedom 40/40 boom vang adjustment (?)

Bruce, I have 40/40 #16, season #14 for us. I had the same problem when I first took ownership, but eventually figured it out. Before dropping the main, have one person push the clew end of the boom up as far as you can (using a boat hook or a broomstick helps) while standing in the cockpit, while a...

Re: Jib halyard being cut by broken mast head block

I am using a chafe guard https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LAGV3V8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Wrapped with clear T-rex tape https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y6PHWY6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to get me through until winter. I have to re-tape it ever...

Jib halyard being cut by broken mast head block

Freedom 40/40 #16 We have a problem with our jib halyard being severely chafed/lacerated to the point where I have to cut a couple feet off every few times we sail. It is hard to pull the jib down. I can feel the halyard binding on something, presumably at the mast. We are wrapping it with a chafe g...
