cutlass bearing(s) on Freedom 39 Deck Salon
Hola, I have a 1983 (4?) Freedom 39 Deck Salon. Does anyone know: The size of the cutlass bearing in the strut? I think it's 1 1/4" x 2" x 5". There is play where the shaft exits the boat from the engine/transmission. It looks like there could be room for another bearing in the hull. Is this so, and...

Re: Minor disaster aboard F39PHS (Perkins 4108)
How do you like the beta? That was top of my list in terms of potential replacements. We will do compression/blowby and oil testing once we haul for the season and if the news isn't good, we'll probably go that route. I was wondering if the 38 was enough power because I'd hate to have to go up 150-...

Re: Minor disaster aboard F39PHS (Perkins 4108)
I too have a Fredom 39 ( deck salon, hull number 27). I re-powered in 2014, when I was tired of mopping up oil from the engine, not able to run at rated RPM without overheating, the noise, and was on the way down the west coast to Mexico. A rebuild would have cost $11k, I was able to replace it with...

1983 Freedom 39 Deck Salon schooner hull #27
Hola, I am in the preliminary stages of getting Spartan ready to sell. I have some questions for our collective wisdom: 1. Anybody interested? 2. She's currently in La Paz, Mexico. My belief is there would be a better market for her in San Diego or Los Angeles (or San Francisco or Seattle). Anybody ...

Re: Strut Prop Shaft Alignment Freedom 39
The shaft is offset slightly so it can be removed past the skeg.

What wax to use on TPI carbon fiber mast?
What wax to people recommend for treating TPI carbon fiber masts? Ours do have the typical radial cracking, and I'd like to prevent any water ingress. Also, any other maintenance tasks for the masts? I have read Eric Sponberg's article, he does mention proper maintenance but does not say what that m...

Sails for Freedom 39
I have a set of sails for a Freedom 39 Cat Schooner. They look to be the originals. Cursory look says they are in fine shape, some chafing on the main (on what?) and the mask bolts have some chafing. Not sure why the PO didn't just have the sails serviced. I'll be in the San Francisco bay area this ...

Filling both water tanks
We have a Freedom 39 Deck Salon, with two "saddle tanks" for water, one on either side of the cabin behind the setees. We believe they are about 90 gallons each. They are attached through the outlet hoses when both selection valves are open. When we slowly fill one tank, both tanks fill. However, wh...

Strut alignment, Freedom 39 PH
Our strut is not in proper alignment with the propeller shaft and shaft log, thus causing wear on the cutlass bearing. Yes, we have adjusted the engine and shaft as much as possible, and we're still off. Looks like it might have been a day one issue, there's no indication that there's been any damag...

Re: F39 PH deck drainage?
Thanks PH39, looks like this was a known problem. Glad to know it wasn't the cabin settling, couldn't really see how it could be other than the lack of drainage. I'm reluctant to drill any holes, so I'll continue with the mop, and sailing to dryer places ;-) Doug s/v Spartan currently Newport Beach,...
