Re: Sailing the coast of Portugal southbound

Great to see you are cruising. My f30(28) ck made that trip with first owner in 1982? Clave' has a metal shoe at the rear of the keel extending beneath the front of the rudder. I still have had to dive to cut a line wrapped on the prop shaft once. Photos or your you tube bikini money shots make twen...

Re: reefing points of a cat ketch

I have gotten a couple quotes to replace my sails. I had decided after sailing for five years I need the second reef point only. We have found full sail until we put a second reef on the mizzen and the next step furl the mizzen and go to second reef in the main. Maybe a third reef for balance or as ...

Re: Campbell sailor propeller Freedom 28ck

I prevously had a three blade with my volvo and noted higher speed and better acceleraion wih lower rpm and horspower of original volvo. Negligable speed chane under sail with current two blade prop. I can get full rpm with current prop.
Campbell claims better speed both inder power and sail. ???

Re: engine sizing for an F28 ck Hoyt

Clave' s original volvo transmission gave up, an inability to repair led to repower. Beta more expensive here, and although I liked it, we went with Yanmar 2ym15. Higher rpm just takes getting used to. Spinning 16 inch two blade. Flat water 5.5 knots. Fat heavy boat with windage could use more power ...

Never sure what prior owners might have added. Boat us has published their thoughts previously.

Re: Plywood rot below port?

The previous owners had removed headliners and the side trim. Fiberglass cabin top ground and sanded down and painted. My wife and I removed the liners in the shelves. We then cleaned and painted the fiberglass. I was concerned I would have condensation around the ports as the cabin sides are not co...

Re: self steering vanes on barn door rudder boats?

There is a Freedom 28 ck still on sailboat listings ,though sold, that has a photo of their Aries vane. It was sold fairly quickly and I never tried to contact owner. https://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/74012 I bought a ev100 raymarine autopilot four years ago, but have never installed it. I reall...
