Seeking a F39 PH or deck salon

After much pondering, we seem to be moving towards a Freedom 39 PH or deck salon as the cat ketch/ schooner we are most interested in for our next boat. While I sailed a Freedom 44 many years ago, have been in love with that design forever. and almost bought one a few years back, I've never actually...

Re: Searching for a F44...again

I had not been considering the 45- most are probably outside my price/ comfort zone, but I'd be interested to get more information on your boat, as I'm trying to be open minded.

Searching for a F44...again

I’m a long time Freedom / unstayed rig admirer, ever since getting a ride on on a F44 back in the 80’s. I came close to buying a 44 about 8 years ago, but a suddenly arising family health situation caused me to decide against it at the time. The stars look like they are once more aligning, and I’m b...

Re: Looking for Freedom 40 ketch aft cockpit

I have good insurance on my 39' boat (not a Freedom) at a very reasonable price, through State Farm. My boat turned 50 last year. With a good recent survey the age was a non-issue.

Re: Lithium ion batteries

The LiFePO4 batteries used in marine systems are not the chemistry that raises concerns about fire. They are very (very) safe, and aren't subject to the kind of thermal runaway that can happen with other lithium chemistries. I'm not an expert on marine conversions, but just someone who as been looki...

Re: Replacement rudder for Mull 28

The insurance payout you got is because of a Boat US policy change, after they switched underwriting to Geico a few years back. It’s in the policy language, but long time customers with older boats were not notified of this significant change- unless of course they read their policies, which we all ...

Re: Minor disaster aboard F39PHS (Perkins 4108)

I have had something similar happen on a small Yanmar, with the solenoid clicking, starter trying to turn. When I pulled & disassembled the starter I found the interior almost completely filled with grease of the ages. Cleaning everything out had it working like a champ. Here's hoping your problem i...

Re: shifting between reverse and forward

I don't know if the control on my boat is the same, but it sounds as if it works the same way. If so, you should not need to pull the button out again unless you want to use the throttle independent of being in gear. I need to be in neutral- lever straight up- in order to pull the button out. Just p...

Re: Diesel tank cleaning

One solution to the mouthful of diesel problem would be to use one of the primer bulbs that are commonly sold for outboards. Clamp this to the hose you are using and you can avoid the oral method. I doubt it matters for occasional use, but you can get them rated for diesel. My boat has one installed...

Re: Is this a Freedom?

There is quite a discussion of this incident towards the end of a Sailing Anarchy thread that started over another jetty collision in the same area. There are pictures of the boat hauled out, with the rudder shaft bent 90°. It's an S2, apparently, a very thick solid layup. Incredibly tough construct...
