Re: Square top main halyard solution
You are correct that the Ryobi 3/8 chuck will not fit so I used a grinder to grind down the flats on the star bit to make it fit. Since I have a 2:1 halyard the Ryobi has plenty of torque to raise the sail and tighten the halyard. I first use the drill counter clockwise until it bogs down then I swi...

Square top main halyard solution
Hi All, I figured out a solution that allows the squaretop main to automatically pull the head of the sail to the mast. Normally I would have to pull the head of the sail to the headboard car and insert a pin. Since I have a harken battcar system the battcar stack is so high (and I am short!) that I...

Re: Simplifying camberspar rigging
Hi All I took a different approach to simplifying the rigging. Instead of a bolt I use a threaded rod. I first pass the threaded rod through the retainer and camberspar and loosely screw on two plastic nuts on either side. Since the camberspar and retainer are now held together on the forestay its e...

Re: Freedom 36 Sloop propeller
I have a Maxprop three blade feathering prop. It is fantastic in both forward and reverse. The boat was repowered with a 40 hp yanmar so I had to increase the hub size from 64mm to 70mm. PYI inc took my old prop, changed out the hub and refurbished the entire prop and did an excellent job at a good ...

Re: Relocating the Waterline
Hi Mike, I have a similar problem. The previous owner repainted the boat with awlgrip and had two fat vinyl white stripes added at waterline. The bottom stripe always fouled so I had the boatyard raise the bottom paint about 2 inches. I still get fouling. I like the idea of painting the bootstripe w...

Asym Spinnaker Takedown chute
Hello I plan on purchasing an asym spinnaker. I have used both ATN an chutscoop takedown socks on other boats and they work fine but you still have to go forward to takedown the spinnaker. I was wondering if anyone has rigged the Freedom on deck takedown chute with an asym sail. Also where can I fin...

Re: the most lost bit on a Freedom
Hi Mike, An easier way to attach the camberspar retain is with a short threaded rod instead of a bolt. With a bolt you have to hold everything in place and try to run the bolt through the two washers, the sail grommets the retainer and the camberspar all at once and then try to screw on the bolt!!! ...

F36/38 Bow in aft stringer while on the hard
Hi All, Just went to the boat to start some spring. I removed all the floorboards to refinish them and I noticed that the aft stringer (the one that runs along the gally) has a pronounced bow from port to strbd. The stringer near the head has a slight bow. This has never happened before so I am wond...

On my F38 I have a rigid boomvang with no toping lift. It works great.
