Emergency cockpit knife
This is a little project I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I had this idea a few years back, but I didn't get around to doing it until I was preparing for this season. I always try to keep a folding rigging knife on me, but sometimes you need to cut through rope fast , and reaching into a pocket ...

Re: Comparing Freedom 35 with Freedom 38?
The 35 sails much better in light winds, the 38 needs at least 10kt of breeze to do anything. Above 15kt, a 38 is right in its prime, and I imagine the 35 is reefed or close to it. From 12kt to 20kt, it is a very fast boat, handles excellently, and is quite comfortable. A 38 is also much better in h...

Re: Deck fill
I just do what this guy says to do: Marine How To. His posts on electrical terminations are also worth a read.

Re: F21 mast swaying
I think I might have mentioned this to you, but Paul Dennis has a mast from that red F21 that he scrapped. Getting the mast to you would be tricky, but he would probably ship you the masthead piece. I'm not sure if it's the same design as the mastheads on the bigger Freedoms, but if it is, there ain...

Re: very low water bilge pump
I built one using this pump and a hose barb threaded into a piece of starboard as a pickup. Works great.

Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup
Thanks for this diagram, as it appears that I've been tying it wrong for 25 years. Having said that, what's the difference in actual operation? I think that between the two setups shown, the "wrong" version would make it more difficult to access and untie the bowline if needed, as it would be hidde...

Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup
It took me a while to figure this out, and I still have to do it at least twice every spring. This picture from UK Sailmakers demonstrates it pretty well:

Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup
Ahh, ok. I assume you mean tack when you said clew, yes? While it's probably not ideal to put slightly more outward force on that last sail car than the luff normally does when the sail is fully raised, I don't think it's necessarily a problem. It looks like the reefed tack is only about 3" aft of w...
