Re: Original Harstick/F30 aft reef lines

Yes I run mine the way James does (and the drawing shows) as well. However in the photo it looks like the the ends of the tack reef line are tied to the sail instead. One BIG change I made was to replace the 3/8" (or 5/16"?) double braid tack reef line with 1/4" Dyneema line. It is much more slipper...

Re: Length of anchor chain 40/40

I am in Salem, MA. I looked into re-galvanizing about 5 years ago and got nowhere. I did speak with a guy who said they used to do it but because the cost had gotten so high people would just buy new chain instead. Which is what I did. Also heard of a red neck rust removal technique for rusty chain....

Re: Cabin Walls

Hi Lance, When I stripped out the V-berth of my trawler I put up strips of mahogany finished with polyurethane. I was pleased with the results.

Re: LED Bulb replacement F-32

I did the low budget conversion where I just bought LED bulbs on Amazon and so only swapped out the bulb but not the whole light fixture. Cheap and easy upgrade. You want the bulbs that emit light 360 degrees for good cabin illumination. The ones that just shine top and bottom don't disperse the lig...

Re: I Need Battery Suggestions

Sorry I don't have the exact specifications but here is one thought: The best price I have found on quality batteries is from Batteries Plus Bulbs. You get an extra discount when ordering from them on line and picking up at their store. It is a chain of stores so they may be local to you.

Re: Thru hulls without seacocks

On my 1993 F35 (Pedrick design) I had 7 or so above the waterline plastic thru-hulls at the boot stripe level. All were suffering from UV degradation and I replaced them with metal ones. I believe the new ones will last the life of the hull. My concern was that if a weaken plastic thru-hull struck s...

Re: Broken aluminium mast

I once read an article in a sailing magazine where the author encountered a thrifty sailor who needed a new mast and made one out of a discarded aluminum lamp pole. The kind they use to mount those really tall sodium lights for highways. They are made of aluminum and tapered. Just a thought. Albeit ...

Re: Propeller options on a Freedom 32 (Hoyt)

Regarding other low cost options, I am a big fan of the Campbell sailor propeller and have purchased my second after I bought my Freedom 35' which came with a worn out factory Max prop. Practical sailor's testing reflects my experience with these Campbell Sailors which is that they have a high thrus...

Re: worn gooseneck bracket F35P '97

I had the same problem and rebuilt the bracket and am VERY pleased with my results. I have looked at several Freedoms and this is a common problem so I concluded that just replacing the parts would lead to the same wear problem all over again so I decided to improve the design. As for the the plate ...

Re: new propane tank won't fit on Pedrick 35

I have a 1995 Pedrick and the Worthington 299494 cylinders fit perfectly. Unless the Freedom changed the molds for the boats (highly unlikely) I suspect either a previous owner put some kind of spacer under the tanks or modified the lid making it lower. I have my boat in Salem MA and I will be avail...
