Re: F21 Blade jib management from the cockpit

I managed to get my jib management system sorted today, I haven't been able to get to the boat since the late summer. I had to keep everything small as there is not much room where my jammers are. I have an additional jammer (and a 4:1 pulley system which is used to raise/lower my drop keels) on bot...

Re: Main sail handling on F30

Mike, just an additional thought. It might help if you try sailing by the lee, i.e. bring the boom across so the flow is from leech to luff across the sail. However, as you are overpowered it might be tricky and I'm not sure I'd want to do that without a pretty sturdy preventer to avoid the gybe.

Re: Main sail handling on F30

P.s. what is a Portuguese reef, I haven't come across the term before.

Re: Main sail handling on F30

No recommendations as such but just a comment on the mechanics of the situation. The force from the sail is acting at a point somewhere in the middle of the sail, probably a bit less that half way from the mast. If you think about it, this force is giving you a rotational moment about the centre of ...

Re: Mast split

Water freezing or corrosion it's clearly related to the masthead unit. You can see that the taper occurs just below the base of the masthead unit. It is visible in the crack, so clearly implicated in the forces involved.

Re: freedom 21 mast exit block

Ian, I'm guessing that elongating the hole at the same location for an internal jib halliard would severely weaken the mast. I'm pretty sure the SS fittings on the Spinnaker block are there to reinforce the mast around the cutout. With smaller diameter HMWPE lines you might fit a smaller double bloc...

Re: freedom 21 mast exit block

Yes that is the spinnaker block and its exactly the same as the one I have. It is an unusual fitting, exit blocks usually have attachments either above and below or to the sides on flanges that sit against the mast but ours is recessed on that pair stainless straps. What exactly is the problem with ...

Re: freedom 21 mast exit block

That's interesting, my F21 has an external jib block and only the spinnaker and main halliards are internal to the mast. I am not sure what kit was used in your mast but if you measure it up and search any chandlery for exit blocks you can compare sizes. You may need to go to the manufacturers to ge...

Re: Soft shackles

I find a good sharp knife is the best way to cut dynema. I use an old non stainless chefs knife, which I give a quick hone before working on my splices. One tip that I picked up on a video was to tape up the rope first, I use paper masking tape, and cut through the tape. It holds the fibres in place...

Re: F21 Blade jib management from the cockpit

Hi Ian, thanks for the links. I did have a look at the Harken blocks but they are so damned expensive over here. List is £55 best offer I found was £45, which in USD is close to twice the price of the one in your link in your link. The Ronstan block I can get £ for $, which is good to know, just a b...
