Sun just coming uo at 8.30am in Shropshire, waiting for the school bus for my kids. Snow is mot a permanent feature here and was gone in a few hours.

Just love these photographs, especially the closeup of mountain and moon. It is certainly very beautiful where you are... if a little chilly!

Hi Ian, LP is the shortest distance luff to clew, i.e along a line ar right angle to the luff. I will not be at the boat for a couple of weeks but will measure mine if you have not found anything by then.

The jib is pretty small but I have used it even in 20+knts when I have had one reef in. In light winds I have seen it give me another knt or so and I'm pretty sure it allows me to point higher when powered up. I managed to get my jib management system sorted today, I haven't been able to get to the boat since the late summer. I had to keep everything small as there is not much room where my jammers are. I have an additional jammer (and a 4:1 pulley system which is used to raise/lower my drop keels) on bot...

Mike, just an additional thought. It might help if you try sailing by the lee, i.e. bring the boom across so the flow is from leech to luff across the sail. However, as you are overpowered it might be tricky and I'm not sure I'd want to do that without a pretty sturdy preventer to avoid the gybe.

No recommendations as such but just a comment on the mechanics of the situation. The force from the sail is acting at a point somewhere in the middle of the sail, probably a bit less that half way from the mast. If you think about it, this force is giving you a rotational moment about the centre of ...
