Re: F36 - new jib without wishbone
This is an interesting question. Suppose one could set up a sail without the camberspar and experiment. Think the jib would not sheet well upwind without the camberspar to help shape the sail and hold it out. The ability to self tack would probably be hampered. On a reach you would need a jib car bl...

Re: Anchor windless and anchor size
Steve Goodwin - SV Panope has a Youtube channel - https://m.youtube.com/@flygoodwin He has over 100 videos with extensive anchor system testing and tips. Here is a summary anchor test video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=smgWTtFuk3U Anchor system debates can be quite passionate. But I think most woul...

Re: Freedom 40/40 prop damage
Yes, its really just an inspection by eye for any further damage. Idea is to slowly look around for anything glaring in drivetrain that looks odd. Probably will not know if all is well until boat is back in water and you give boat a run at various rpms. 1) Turn shaft to see if it is true and in colu...

Re: Freedom 40/40 prop damage
It might be helpful to reach out to the shop doing the work for an update and diagnosis. But they should be able to repair it and test it without too much trouble. The rest of the drivetrain is worth having checked to resolve any issues prior the spring launch rush. At least a good visual inspection...

Re: Rigging a Preventer
For a main preventer I have two options. 1) Take some dyneema with brummel spliced loops on both ends. It should be about same length of boom. One end is looped over the boom bail. The other end is attached to a line with a snap shackle. The line runs from a clutch in the cockpit, through a turning ...

Re: Jib without the camberspar
Hi, Agree that the Forestay could need tightening. I had a problem with a loose forestay and Camberspar end banging against the mast and forestay rubbing pulpit. Two things helped: 1) Paul Dennis advice is to add tension until just before the mast starts to deflect. It’s much easier with another per...

Re: Rigging sails and single line reefing on a F45cc
Don, Congratulations on your new boat. Others have recently asked some of the exact same questions. So here are some relevant links. This site’s keyword search is very good. 1) Here is a recent chain on reefing: https://www.freedomyachts.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13531 2) The longer end of the cambers...

Re: Autopilot installation photos...Who has some pics to share????
Here are some pictures of the autopilot installation on my F36. It is a vintage autohelm. There is a plywood shelf glassed in that the ram is mounted on. The other end is mounted to the arm that is attached to the rudder shaft. Also of note is the rudder angle sensor. The computer and wiring is out ...
