Re: Potential F45 CC purchase
1. Can't help you with the teak decks. 2. the outhaul on mine needed an extra purchase. I also am in the process of leading it back to the cockpit and its own clutch. I've never liked having to go to the mast and banjo the outhaul to adjust it. 3. My latest insurance survey asked for an inspection o...

Cabin Walls
Every project will have scope creep. After successfully replacing 8 ports in Glory with Newfound Metals ports, it was time to do the last 4 up forward. After removing them, it was clear that the horizontal slats needed to come out too, since many had bowed, the screws were corroded, and there was no...

Re: Freedom 33 wood interior replacement
Hey Guero, we just did a similar job on our Freedom 45. All of the ports in the aft cabin were leaking. I replaced them with newfound metals replacements and they are fantastic and solve the issue with the the original ports barely being held in and relying on loads of gunk. Our wood was even worse ...

Re: Restoring modified Freedom 45 CC to self-tending jib?
Just FYI if you are planning to re-use someone else's camberspar. Many of the Freedom 45's were modified to put the headstay out on the end of the bow pulpit, increasing the J measurement and requiring a new camberspar, so depending on your setup the spar off another boat may not work. Regarding att...

Freedom 45 CC 2nd Manual Bilge Pump
I may have a requirement to have a 2nd manual bilge pump "permanently installed." the current setup is an automatic pump that discharges in the forward head. There is a manual whale pump in the cockpit. If I install a 2nd manual pump, it is supposed to be operable from below. When I look at the layo...

Re: PHRF Adjustments for Freedoms
I can add to this list for the Freedom 45. PHRFNE has a base rating of 99 but Narragansett Bay uses a base of 123 which is much more reasonable. In YRALIS, the Freedom 45 base is 126 (wing keel) and the 40/40 is 102. I think that still may be a bit punitive for the 40/40. My F45 had the following ad...

Re: New port lights
nice work on these. on my columbia, I used VHB and dow 765. It was a slightly different situation but the result was the same. I used a wooden roller along the edges instead of trying to brace in the portlights and it has worked just fine. yours look really great and only you will know where the "fl...
