Re: New magnetic compass
I wouldn’t toss it just yet. I don’t recall the company name, but there are companies that repair and restore them. Parts should be available, a dome would be a common part. They will restore and rebuild it, install led bs conventional lighting. Should be good as new. Not sure if cost vs replace but...

Re: Dangers of offset companionways??
Yes of course it is a vulnerability and one that is mentioned in writings about selecting off shore capable sailing vessels. If you get knocked down on that side you are more vulnerable. However first, how will you use the boat? Will you cross oceans, be offshore for weeks on end outrunning favorabl...

On Deck Staysail badly Freedom 21
I am interested in building a sail bag for my standard F-21 Staysail. I’m thinking of a long and narrow bag attached forward at the bow pulpit near the gun mount tube running down and along the deck under where the pole runs along the lifelines and feathered to the first stantion along the port side...

Re: F21 running rigging beginner questions
On someone’s point that the battens should be flush with the edge of the sail I don’t believe that is correct. Possibly those are not to the original design and the sailmaker simplified the design. I have owned two F21’s both with what I believe to be original mains. Both had the batons protrude pas...

Re: Tohatsu SailPro 6hp Outboard?
I’ve owned about 15 outboards. Mostly Evinrude/Johnson. In the last ten years after having two Yamaha 15 hp I have switched over to all Yamaha and have a heavy as hell yes 8HP 4 stroke Yamaha on my 27’ oday and a Yamaha 6 HP on my 21’ Freedom in Wisconsin. Also an 8 hp on my dingy. They are all outs...

Re: Replacement rudder for Mull 28
What was the final total cost and did insurance cover it ? Mine was about $12,500 total including installation and shipping. State Farm paid for it all.

Re: Freedom 21 Blade Jib
Thanks for everyone’s replies. Still looking for the length of the foot on F21 owners’ “blade” jobs. From Newt2u’s pictures I can get an estimate of his. Couldn’t find anything on the old Freedom21info site.

Freedom 21 Blade Jib
I have a standard "class" jib for my Freedom 21 which I enjoy and faithfully douse when the wind speeds get over 10 knots. I am interested in building a "blade" jib with a shorter foot such that I can fly a jib in a bit more wind. I understand from the archives there was such a "blade" jib design ba...

Re: F21 outboard motors
My first 21 had a 2 HP Honda. Fabulous motor but not enough power for my needs. Way underpowered unless you are going short distance in still air/water. My second 21 has a wonderful 6hp 2 stroke long shaft electric start 90’s Yamaha. Best outboard I have ever owned. Starts every time with one burst ...

Re: Freedom 21 Mast Creaking and movement
OK folks, I spoke to the man - Paul Dennis who knows all things Freedom. He told me the fix for this problem. It involves disassembling the mast stub/hinge assembly removing it from the boat and adding fiberglass to the inside of the bottom of the mast stub where it is less than perfectly contacting...
