Re: Yanmar 3GM30F heavy smoke at high RPM

Note that the smoke produced by burning engine oil has a blue tinge while smoke produced by an overloaded diesel engine is black. White "smoke" is actually either unburned diesel fuel or coolant vapor, the difference is the smell. Knowing these differences can help with the troubleshooting.

Re: new propane tank won't fit on Pedrick 35

Stephen

Is there anything on the bottom of the locker? Some boats had a round ring that the tank was supposed to fit over. If this ring is too large a diameter it will hold the tank 1/2" - 3/4" high. This sounds like the space you need to make the new tanks fit.

Re: Keel/Bottom

Rich It sounds like you are well versed in the ins and outs of corrosion and have the problem well in hand. I taught the ABYC Corrosion class for several years and still enjoy the challenge of tracking down these issues. Although I no longer own a Freedom, I built many of the Freedom models over the...

Re: Keel/Bottom

Rich It looks like a case of stray current corrosion. The "extra" anode saved the majority of the underwater metal from severe damage. A galvanic isolator is overcome by stray current in excess of 1.4 volts. When overpowered, it can't do anything to prevent corrosion. The isolator should prevent cur...

Re: Eye and hook for companionway stairs on a F-30

Just because a hook and eye was there before doesn't mean that it is the best choice. From your description I would consider the Sea Dog Anti-Rattle Latch from Wholesale Marine of the Flexible T-handle Latches from Fisheries Supply. Other options: AttwoodMarine.com WhitewaterMH.com MarineHardware.co...

No need to leave. I resigned from Freedom Yachts in 2003 and sold my Freedom 36 in 2009. I enjoy reading about everyone's projects and exploits with Freedoms and occasionally, when time allows, offer advice.

Re: F32: what are these “circular cutouts” on the deck?

These deck recesses allow water to drain under the toerail. Without them standing water would buildup until it was high enough to drain through the holes in the side of the toerail. The biggest problem with these is if the boat is not "trimmed" properly. If the boat is "down by the head" or "down by...

Re: 40/40 Companionway Slider

Google: "self-adhesive Teflon strips"

Remove the slider, clean underside with alcohol, apply strips, and replace slider.

Re: Rebdding and riveting mast track

Carbon fiber is very cathodic and will cause galvanic corrosion of every other metal, including stainless steel. Monel rivets are a better choice.
