Ran the boat out of fuel...WHAT!!??

I have owned my boat for 21 years and I ran her out of fuel for the first time last night. It was so unexpected I could not believe what I was seeing on the fuel gauge which is on top of the tank in the aft cabin. I had checked, thought I checked obviously, the fuel level before I departed on a 40 m...

Re: Start button - I swear I'll fix it this time

You did not mention the type of engine but I had the same issue on a Yanmar. Tracked the problem to not enough amperage to starter when it was hot. The next time it happens jump the battery connection on the starter to the solenoid, if it turns over you have the issue identified. I wired a NAPA mar...

Re: Start button - I swear I'll fix it this time

Thanks everybody. OK it's at the TOP of the list now. All I have to do is remember which list it's at the top of.

I'm ordering a solenoid today!

Re: Freedom 21 Mast Creaking and movement

I had a Freedom 21 and sold it and bought a used Mull F30. I had no issue with the bottom of the F21 mast. On the 30 the very first sail from City Island NY to Cape Cod the bottom of the mast was banging in heavy seas downwind. What I did was KISS. I pull the mast each winter. I found a rolled up c...

Re: Yanmar Parts

Long overdue follow up on this. None of the online places will sell to Cali although I do note Amazon now carries some parts. Not comprehensive but they have a few items. Same with ebay although that is catch as catch can. I called Svendsen's, they were happy to take my over the phone and fedex them...

Re: Boat insurance question

Yea, dealing with the insurance company is my concern re agreed value. If the boat was lost I am positive they would do everything in their power to avoid paying. My agreed value is $35K. I am not exposed to severe storms or lightning strikes where I live so the significant risks would be fire, dism...

Re: Start button - I swear I'll fix it this time

Geoff, thanks for responding. OK, you put new relay in to activate the larger relay. Do I just follow the relay wiring in the manual wiring diagram and stick the new relay in the middle? Is the original wiring OK re awg, just need to add the relay? Stupid question, what do you call the required rela...

Boat insurance question

Hi all, I am hoping there is someone here that can give me a little advice re insurance. Any of us who use marinas or transit marinas usually have to demonstrate liability coverage in order to tie up for any length of time. I have this coverage and don't intend to change it. I do a lot of marina hop...

Re: Replacement rudder for Mull 28

Hi Mike, Thanks for the interesting info....from the few drawings or other info I have been able to track down, the F28 rudder shares the same rudderstock dimensions, with three 3" OD SS collars that go through the upper and lower bearings, and the middle collar that attaches to the steering quadra...

Re: Replacement rudder for Mull 28

Walter, Your are right. It is extremely difficult to deploy an effective emergency rudder offshore in a seaway. You can come up with all sorts of clever solutions but a cassette mount on the transom with a blade stored inside the boat is the best way to go IMO. You punch the damaged rudder out throu...
