Re: solar panel system setup - request for advise

Just saw the update to this thread and happy to have something to write about given the Covid lock down. I have now had my el cheapo (Amazon) HQST 100 watt panels on board for almost four years. They are still going strong although, as mentioned in my original post, I have never come close to gettin...

Re: Yanmar Parts

Hey Mike, hope you and your family are all doing well. I recently purchased Yanmar parts from Svens. They only get these shipments in twice a month (15th and 30th, I think) though that might also have changed recently given overall delivery issues. It's also not exactly an easy drive for you so let...

Yanmar Parts

Hi all, locked down in California but able to do some boat work due to my boat being in my back yard (not violating remain in place). I have a diesel leak around the hi pressure fuel pump area. It is hard to get to so I have been putting the fix off for a long time. In the spirit of never letting a ...

Re: SSB whip?

The PO of Castaway had fitted an SSB radio (ICOM), which he used when making Atlantic crossings. The radio was installed by the chart table – forward end of saloon in UK model), with the aerial tuner unit under the side deck and a cable gland for the aerial itself in the low bulwark formed by the h...

Interior lighting

I noted a while ago here that I had made a boo boo with my handhold install and headliner replacement project. Specifically, I covered my main cabin light mounting location with a handhold base. After getting the bits installed I was so proud of myself... until I realized "where the hell is the ligh...

Re: Companionway hatch cover rebuild

We'll, this one is going in my archive file. That's a two thousand dollar job! Beautiful. I have a 30 and am sometimes surprised FYI did some el cheapo installs on the boat with unprotected or silicon sealed screws into cored areas. Why they would do this on an otherwise well built boat is a mystery.

Re: Helping to pay for FreedomYachts.org

Hey Geoff, I got the request for donation in my daily e-mail digest and made a donation from there. I then went to the board and found out you had filled the bucket already. Apply my bucks to the next round or use them to support the site in some other way. The board is an invaluable resource, keep ...

Re: Anemometer replacement recommendations wanted

All I can say is anemometer's are equipped with stealth AI. When the anemometer knows you want good wind numbers it will stop working. It will start again when You no longer need the wind speed/direction. I have a Raymarine unit which is so equipped. I have often wondered how those ultrasonic wind s...
