Re: need mast measurements for F30

Below is the business part of an e-mail I sent to Paul re mast length on the F30. Just riposting here to memorialize the data. With regard to the total mast length, Using my numbers  and having just run down to the boat to measure the inside height, I come up with a total mast length of 49 feet 1 an...

Re: need mast measurements for F30

Paul, The "plate" I mentioned in my post is (at least on my mast) a rectangular sheet of metal which fits onto the front of the mast and contains the jib/spinnaker halyard box. The plate is radiused to conform to the mast curvature and also supports the camber spar topping lift as well as the lazy j...

Re: need mast measurements for F30

Hi - There is a pdf of the Freedom 30 Manual in the Documentation section of the site that corrects the masthead height above the water from 44' to 47' -6". https://www.freedomyachts.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8557 OK, that makes a bit more sense. I believe they have a little contingency in the 47-6 ...

Re: need mast measurements for F30

Having decided that a new mast for my Bagatelle is too exorbitant, I have been looking for a used replacement. I have located a freestanding carbon mast off a catamaran in FL--much longer than the Freedom 30's, but might be able to cut it to fit. Does anyone have detailed specs of the F30 mast? Fai...

Re: need mast measurements for F30

A comment on my measurements. Sorry about the format i.e. the inches from one spot to another. It's a little confusing I know. When I took the measurement I wanted to ensure I knew the detailed dimensions of the mast (so I could fit a storm jib for example). I got so focused on this I neglected to d...

Re: depth and speed sensor question

I have had mine out afloat a couple of times. Say what you will, looking down into the deep blue ocean thru the hole in my boat is unsettling even though I know I can stop the water with the flat of my hand. Haven't sunk the boat, so I must be doing something right.

Re: Mast creak ... again

I took the mast out and worked several projects as mentioned in original post. I now know all about fixing a Raymarine wind transducer so if you have problems with one I can provide some feedback on disassembly and test strategy. With regard to the creak. I used some of the techniques mentioned on t...

Re: Mast creak ... again

Did something somewhat similarly, although in my case, I used a set of decent calipers, measured base and mast interior diameter and added epoxy to the interior of the mast for 3 inches or so to build it up to the base diameter -- didn't need much -- probably a 16th or so, but haven't noticed any i...

Re: Mast creak ... again

We pulled the mast, cleaned up the interior of the mast base, coated it with release agent, coated the mast base plate with epoxy and fiberglass material, and inserted it into the mast, providing a perfect fit. When this was done, the creaking disappeared. -- Geoff Geoff, So the idea is that the ma...
