Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup

Thanks for this diagram, as it appears that I've been tying it wrong for 25 years. Having said that, what's the difference in actual operation? I think that between the two setups shown, the "wrong" version would make it more difficult to access and untie the bowline if needed, as it would be hidde...

Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup

It took me a while to figure this out, and I still have to do it at least twice every spring. This picture from UK Sailmakers demonstrates it pretty well:

Re: Freedom 32 Continuous reef setup

Ahh, ok. I assume you mean tack when you said clew, yes? While it's probably not ideal to put slightly more outward force on that last sail car than the luff normally does when the sail is fully raised, I don't think it's necessarily a problem. It looks like the reefed tack is only about 3" aft of w...

Yes, that's the guy! His videos are great. He has a cool/weird aluminum sailboat too.

Re: Anchor windless and anchor size

There are a million opinions on anchors out there, and every sailor has their two cents. I will offer my own experiences and recommendation, but first: don't go with a CQR. It's an outdated design that just isn't as good as any of the modern anchors. Look it up, it was designed in the 1930's! It's c...

Re: F30 New Wind Instrument - Mast Un-Step?

Has anyone had luck mousing out/in a cable thru the mast without having to un-step it? Yes, I have done it. It was not a big deal. I just went up the mast with the new wire, cut the old wire, attached it to the bottom end of the new wire, and fed it down. I think I had someone gently pulling it thr...

Re: Freedom 35 Pedrick - anyone selling?

Yeah, definitely a bit overzealous with the sealant. And they apparently didn’t think to have a rag handy for cleanup. But I don’t think it suggests an actual problem with the installation. It could be that someone didn’t use enough sealant when stepping the mast the previous season and there were s...

Re: Freedom 35 Pedrick - anyone selling?

You shouldn’t see it, because whoever stepped the mast should have cleaned up the excess. But yeah, it should be there.
