Seacock failure

Yesterday I was trying to deodorize the drain tube from galley sink to the seacock located under the port settee on my F30. The seacocks are original bronze and have functioned well over the years...until now. I was pouring some borax solution into the sink and planned to leave the solution in the p...

Re: Propane dilemma

Mike- You’ve clearly thought things through and can make your plan work. I think collectively, as cruising sailors, we are at a similar juncture in technology as EV’s are on the roads. The technology is there but the practicality is highly dependent on specific needs and use patterns. As interestin...

Re: Propane dilemma

Re alum horizontal tanks. Replacing my 35 year old tank is my backup plan. I hear you loud and clear on the flaky rules. It seems nearly impossible to get an answer out of anyone as to how old a tank can be before it must be scrapped even if in good condition. I have been tempted to bribe someone to...

Re: Propane dilemma

Mark, Thank you for the feedback. Appreciate you taking the time. You are correct in that the "power station" would effectively be an additional - independent house bank. I also agree it is a leap from my current propane system which, like yours, consumes a bottle a year - at most. I singlehand almo...

Propane dilemma

On my 30 I have two Horizontal Worthington aluminum propane tanks - 6 pound (one gallon). One of them came with the boat when I bought her 23 years ago and bears the manufacture date 1985. In 2005 I bought a second tank with the new OPD and had my original tank upgraded to the new OPD. So all good e...

Re: Rigging a Preventer

I almost always sail singlehanded. I use my gunmout pole as a preventer. Set it up 90 degrees to the boat and used the spinnaker sheets to prevent both the camberspar one side and the main the other. All controllable from the cockpit and reusing rigging you already have if you have the spinnaker set...

Re: New magnetic compass

I replaced my compass after fluid leakage. I then realized all parts and fluid are available online direct from Ritchie or Amazon. I went ahead and did a refurb on the old compass just for fun. It was not expensive as a diy project and compass good as new. I felt bad about replacing it. Anyway, I ha...

Re: Replacing original F30 Anchor / Steaming / Nav lights with LED???

Sorry to have missed this. Did you do the replacement? I installed a "lunasea" tricolor on the masthead. Nav/anchor/Strobe. This can be accomplished with the original two wire set up and a couple of cheap diodes. You can independently control each function from your panel. If you receive AIS at the ...
