Re: Is this a G10 rig?

Hi there At one point, it was a new concept for all of us! I can only tell you what I did, and what I learned from my mistakes, so it´s not “advice”! I modelled it on paper. Made a print to scale of the boat from the original brochure, and then overimposed the sail design from Ullman to the same sca...

cabin hatch on an Hoyt CK 30

Hi everyone
The time has come to replace my forward cabin hatch. Would like to purchase the new one before I take the old one out though. Does anyone know the size of the cutout (length-width-radius) or which specific brands/models fit, out of experience? Thanks!

Re: Is this a G10 rig?

Also I like the design. Too much roach or just right? Mmmm.... not an easy answer to that question! Roachy and full-battened, those sails are quite powerful. They are also very efficient. Kudos to Ullman. This also means a they are a handful to manage when the wind pics up very quickly. Too much/li...

Re: Is this a G10 rig?

4. Geodesics??? Not sure exactly what you are referring to. I assume the cut of the sail? Thanks Hi, attached. This is the output of the modelling program used by the sailmaker to design the three-dimentional shape of the sails. They will use the same to calculate the position of the reefing points...

Re: Is this a G10 rig?

Look very smart. Congrats! When designing the sails, may I suggest you give some thought to the following: 1) put a 3rd reef, at least on the main, but prefetrably on both. It will give you more options. I also only have two reefs and I miss a third in a hard blow. 2) when calculating the position o...

Re: beating at 45 degrees - advice from experts

Hey Gerald. many thanks for your insights. I would say the G10 rig actually helps control luff tension. As the mast flexes I can tension the rakband in the middle and lower section of the mast. The result is that the luff of the sail is closer to the mast in the lower two-thirds, whilst still a few ...

Re: beating at 45 degrees - advice from experts

Thanks Erik! Interesting... I have been using, more or less, the following reefing schedule since I bought the boat and seems to wirk fairly good in most points of sail. It was provided by Michel in another thread in the forum. " A reefing schedule could look like this (I used this for years on my F...

Re: beating at 45 degrees - advice from experts

Gentlemen, many thanks for the input. To clear confusion, yes, I do have a ketch, an old Herreshoff-Hoyt cat ketch with wishbone booms, so not a sloop with two masts. Pics here https://www.freedomyachts.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13218 Out of habit, I call the Main the foremast and sail, and the Mizze...

beating at 45 degrees - advice from experts

Hello all Need advice form better sailors than I am. Where I am now, the wind blows in either of two directions, NNE and SSW. All day, most days. As the coast roughly lies N-S, this means any day outing include beating for half a day, to go out or to come back to harbour. Old (Herreshof) cat ketcher...
