Re: On Deck Staysail badly Freedom 21
My blade jib is also tacked to the pulpit top rail and I now have a forestay on which to hank it, attached with an additional halliard just below the spinnaker halliard to ring on the mast. Before, it was hanked to the halliard but that made it difficult to raise and lower and keep tidy. My jib will...

Re: F21 rudder hardware
Hi Ian, well done, you did a great job getting in there. I don't know if the transom spacing/lazarette layout is different between the US and UK designs but there is no way I could get to my gudgeon bolts through the starboard lazarette ditto port. I have about 3in of internal space between the inte...

Re: To paint or not to paint
 Hi Adam, thanks for the tip but at this stage I have decided against paint and will just give the mast a good waxing before next season. I plan to maintain a regimen of pulling the mast, inspecting and waxing. I am not sure where you live but here in the UK heat and lots of sunshine are not as...

Re: To paint or not to paint
Yes, my trailer cost more than the boat, which I picked up for just £1000, I think the trailer was around £2400. Rockin had been languishing in a boat yard for nearly 20 years and was in a sad state. 1FBEFDC5-E31A-4DEC-9BEA-46D97C0078D8.jpeg However, getting the boat home and then onto the marina af...

Re: To paint or not to paint
Update... had another close inspection of my mast this morning now the weather is improving. My mast was also made by Tillotson Pearson. From a couple of tiny chips I can see the gelcoat is about 1mm thick the cracks are definitely in only this layer. From its colour I would say that below the gelco...

Re: To paint or not to paint
Hi Gerald, Have enjoyed your posts re F35 but didn't know you had an F21. Do you get to sail it much? I must admit I find it great fun to sail, although not much room for much more than day sailing. Am currently looking at acquiring an F30 CK, a bit of a project, for going further afield. Currently ...

Re: F21 rudder hardware
Ian, just a thought. Did you check whether the nuts are captive in the transom void, i.e. epoxied in place? I just had a closer look at my gudgeons, which are made by Seasure, a UK company and are made of aluminium, with a single stainless rod running through both. I was mistaken how far the rudder ...

Re: To paint or not to paint
Walter,
That certainly looks good. Did you remove any fittings or just mask up? I have been reading around and most posts I have seen recommend 2 part PU, contrary to what your rep advised, even on dinghy masts with significant flex.

Re: F21 rudder hardware
Ian, I just replaced a wood mounting block for my outboard motor bracket that had 6 bolts through the transom. It is obviously offset from the rudder and the bolts closest to the rudder were a right pain to get off, I doubt you would get to the gudgeon bolts. I was working by feel some 6 to 8 inches...
