Re: A Journey So Far - The travels of Nausikaa

BBBB - Big Bad Boy Biscay Loctudy to Viveiro – 310 NM It must have been close to one full year. This is the time I spend researching the crossing of the BBBB. Pilot books and cruising guides, passage accounts on the web, youtube clips, and chats with other sailors that did it before. And after all t...

Re: A Journey So Far - The travels of Nausikaa

Brest to Loctudy – 60 NM We left the Moulin Blanc marina just after mid-day on June 16th, well into the ebb tide, for the 3-hour ride to Camaret-sur-Mer, at the south entrance of the Rade de Brest. Short ride, about three hours, but uncomfortable: variable NWesterlies inside the rade, and squalls co...

A Journey So Far - The travels of Nausikaa

Hello everyone Tonight, I'm insomniac. It happens to me on land from time to time. So I figured it was a great opportunity to make a start on telling this tale. I will do it in installments, as time permits, but don't expect a chronicle. Not even a sequential account of events. I’m not that kind of ...

Re: 28 CK Centerboard Loading?

The centerboard is about 1700 lb on my boat. The purchase on the centreboard is a 3-to-1. You can easily calculate the dynamic load with this info. 8-)

Re: Sailing the coast of Portugal southbound

Hi Mike. Many thanks. I'm in Sagres today; rounded up St Vincent yesterday! The situation got much better further south of Cascais, but we also went deeper offshore. Must have been very unlucky, because I got my prop fouled twice already in this passage, and had to endure a rather humiliating (and e...

Sailing the coast of Portugal southbound

Hi everyone Was wondering if anyone had done this before, and may have some advice for me. All the way from Baiona, sailing the coast of Portugal close inshore (talking about up to about 6 miles offshore) has been navigating a mine field of fish traps, pods, and nets everywhere. I found them up to 1...

Re: Mast vibration.

Thanks Gerald! Yep, I think -especulate- that it may be a similar effect. The simile is a bow in tension. When you loose, the vibration of the string transmits to the limbs of the bow and it shakes, so it's the topping lift that vibrates harmonically with the wind, not the mast. I have ss wire toppi...
