Re: Heave to with F21?
Hi Michael, I have used a pair of bungee cords before but didn't care for it as it only allows for amidships. What I use is one of my mooring lines. Pull it taunt from the first cleat make a turn around the tiller and then cleat it tight on the opposite side. You want it loose enough to steer but ti...

Re: F21 Traveler Rail.. broken bolts
There are actually screw heads on both the bolts and the barrel nuts (I miss spoke when I typed wrench). https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.downwindmarine.com%2Fimages%2FP%2F17103.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.downwindmarine.com%2FBarrel-Nuts-Chrome-p-91000557.html&docid=OWqAPTfE...

Re: How do you rig the gun mount pole?
Hi Jesse, No, the retrieval line is NOT the bitter end of the spinnaker hallyard. It is a smaller diameter line that you will leave attached to the spinnaker. I use 30' of 1/4" nylon braided line. First find a clean floor or if using the ground insure there is nothing to snag your spinnaker. Lay out...

Re: Heave to with F21?
As you may have noticed, the Freedom21 will want to round up into the wind when over powered. So to heave to this is what I've done... If you rig a friction line from the port quarter cleat to the one on the starboard quarter, taking a turn around the tiller on the way. You can point your boat into ...

Re: F21 Spinnaker and Staysail wanted
My original staysail wore out and I got Schurr Sails of Pensacola, FL to make me a new one out of Dimension Polyant CZ 5 carbon fiber. Great price performance. As I have been racing my Freedom 21 for seven years now, I'm on my third spinnaker. For price, I went with a Rolly Tasker (made in Thailand)...

Re: F21 Traveler Rail.. broken bolts
I had to replace mine about a year after buying my boat. To remove the old bolt, get a 12" legnth of threaded rod the same diameter as the existing bolt/barrel nut. Gently insert it into the hole from inside the cabin. Use a mallet or hamer and gently but firmly tap upwards to break the old caulking...

Re: Where do we find PHRF ratings for older boats?
Thanks Carl, What I've been told is that if at least one boat of the class hasn't been raced for a number of years, the class is dropped from the Ratings. I'm kind of hoping someone out there has an old printed copy of the ratings from the 1980s or 90s with ALL the Freedoms listed. As for my next bo...

Where do we find PHRF ratings for older boats?
As an occasional racer, I find PHRF a good tool for evaluating the potential performance of a boat before making a decision to buy. With that in mind, I'm currently saving up to by my next Freedom. I'm looking for either a Freedom 35 cat ketch (not the British version of the 33) or a Freedom 40 ck a...

Re: How do you rig the gun mount pole?
Sounds about right. I would suggest you tie the bitter end of your retrieval line to a deck pad-eye with a bowline. If it accidentally pulls through the sock as mine, did during a race, one will experience some difficulty in dousing the chute with the line blowing 6 to 10 feet off one's port or star...
