Re: Balsa core
I have USA built Freedom 28 (UK 30) Same design, just a bit smaller. I can trace a line between cored and not cored parts of the hull very easily. There is very well defined ridge on inside of the hull where the thickness changes. Generally it is on the same level as a cabin sole. If you look on out...

Re: F35 (Pedrick) mast track issues
Sailcote works quite well. I'd suggest to try it first. Spraying twice in a season works on my boat. Track and cars need to be sprayed.

Re: Feedback on Freedom 38 wanted by Good Old Boat
Freedom 38 and Freedom 36 (Garry Mull) are essentially same boat. Freedom 38 has a swim platform. Are you going to include F36 in review too?

Re: Why did some Freedoms come without deck collars?
There is synthetic rubber wedge between mast and deck, holding the mast in place on my boat. The collar prevents this wedge from sliding up. I always believed that this is the main purpose of the collar.

Re: 28 cat ketch with tiller steering
I have original drawings of the boat with the tiller. It shows the tiller going over the stern and original sail plan with wishbooms, no traveler for mizzen. I have never found any references about any production boat with a tiller. It seems like just cutting a rectangular hole in a stern under the ...

Re: Swing Keel on F28
Just another thought. How the core in the trunk looks like? The sides under panels are not painted, so you can see through the fiberglass. Is there any big black spots?
I just trying to figure out what can hold the board on sides. If fiberglass is swollen, it could.

Re: Swing Keel on F28
Trunk and centerboard are foil shaped. By dropping the front first, I suspect, you wedged the centerboard into the trunk. I think, you need to lift the front back in place and get the front edge of the board perpendicular to the hull and then drop the board out of the trunk. In my boat there is noth...

Re: portholes on a hoyt F28CK centreboard
My freedom 28 CK 1980, US, has Gray Industry Portlights. Manufacturer is out of business, however ports are still manufactured by pompanette (Bomar). Here is a link http://www.pompanette.com/pomp.nsf/0/2648B1279F709117852578170048142D?Open Also note that port lights on my boat are of two sizes. Two ...

Re: F28 ck stern.
Hi Jim. Did you figure out where the water was seeping in? Was it traveler? Also check sides adjacent to the stern. I had bad port rear quarter - water was seeping into a crack at the topside and penetrate down. It did manage to go from side into stern. Damage wasn't as bad as yours, it stayed in lo...
