Engine heat sensor
I'm told that Perkins didn't provide the gauges and sensors for our 4108. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me the proper part for this. I would like to get it working properly prior to any surveys the buyers may want.

Re: solar panel system setup - request for advise
You want panels that are divided by diodes, so that the shade doesn't stop the output from the part in the sun. You might also want a switch to shut the panels down. I found both my regulator and charger base their output on voltage which will be high with solar operating. When the batteries are low...

Re: Where do we find PHRF ratings for older boats?
I was told the ratings were different for each boat. the one time I raced, the fellow that assigned my handicap went through an hour of protest over what he gave me. I'm sorry I don't remember the number. The ratings are biased towards windward work, not the Freedom's best point of sail. It's an aft...

Re: freedom 45 battery
I took my voltmeter to Sam's Club and bought trolling motor batteries for $70 a piece. You want to make sure all the batteries you buy show exactly the same voltage and it should be higher than 12.6. So far this bank of four has lasted since 2011 with extensive cruising and never adding water. I wen...

Re: Freedom 40 cat ketch: Aluminum mast taper fairing
We've tried both bondo and epoxy over our 20 years of ownership. Both cracked as soon as we encountered reefing situations. Remember the mast is supposed to bend. As soon as it does, the crack will open up. I've wondered if 3m 5200 would work as it has some stretch in it. Both our masts have had tha...

Re: help
Change your fuel filter and try to run it. If that does 't work, tying the dingy alongside as tug boat or tow boat us is best bet.

Re: F30 Cat/Ketch Reefing Diagram Needed
The block on the boom lash pulls the sail luff and boom down to rest on the forward boom topping lift pulling the luff down as well as the clew. Believe me I've been reefing with this system for 20 years and it works just fine.

Re: F30 Cat/Ketch Reefing Diagram Needed
Andy: I've attached a quick draw of single line reefing on wishbone. Tied from the Padeye a foot or so from the end of the boom, through the reefing grommets on the sails, down to a block on the padeye on the other side of the boom, back to the double block where the outhaul uses one block, then bet...

Re: 1981 Freedom 40 Aft Cockpit
I've got the original owners manual (or most of it) on board Running Free. Unfortunately it's over 500 miles away. I might be able to copy it, when I'm there at the end of October, if you can't get another first. We've had our boat for 20 years, so if you have specific questions, let me know, and I ...
