Re: Arch for solar and wind on Freedom 36
I mounted my solar panels on a couple of tubes between the stanchions. It is a pretty cheap way to do it that stays out of the way (they pivot up and down for docking etc.). I have two 85 watt Kyoceras, and they start generating small amounts as soon as the sun comes up, and I generally get to see s...
Marquesas
We have made it to Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. Beautiful sailing, except, tore mainsail in half, broke boom vang bracket, rudder fell off wind vane pendulum, and got fuel blockage just as we arrived and got a tow in.

Re: Autopilot
Gday Geoff, Just a query, I was planning on getting a nice big hydraulic ram (for fast hard over times and to handle nasty weather) when I get around to my autopilot. Is there an advantage to the linear drive over the ram that you are aware of? It's always good to ask someone with real world experie...

Re: Panama Canal
Sorry about the late reply George, We are in the Galapagos now, but we can't upload the web site update of the last part of the trip through the current WiFi provider. It's all written and ready to rock and roll. I don't know what the Internet will be like in the Marquesas, but I guess we'll find ou...

Re: Autopilot
I have a Raymarine Wheel Pilot, which I replaced the wheel unit on recently. On my 39 it will only cope with motoring (but not in decent sized seas) and in mild conditions hard on the wind. I wouldn't bother spending my money on an above deck unit for all round use, I'd go to a below deck unit, whic...

Re: Panama Canal
Shelley is writing the update now, I'll get it up in the next hour or so, and I'll see if I can put the pics up at the same time. No longer have internet on the boat, so we have to do it as we can. http://www.yachtattitudes.com/bvi_to_panama.htm It was something that I had been worried about doing f...

Panama Canal
Well, this is it. We have our time and we pick up our advisor (pilot) at 1700 local time tomorrow to go through the Panama Canal. We will go through the first series of locks and then stay in the lake overnight, and then finish our transit the day after. We are fairly excited, now that all the logis...

Re: Hats off Gentlemen!
Gday Guys, Sorry about the delay in posting, internet is not convenient here. We are moving on to Grenada in about an hour or so. Here is the link to our updated page with the crossing details. http://www.yachtattitudes.com/canary_islands_to_the_caribbean.htm Any questions or details I didn't give, ...

Re: Mast Noise
There was no conduit in mine, just the remains of some foam type material that had been wrapped around it (most of which had turned to powder at the bottom of the mast. I had my main mast out recently and pulled all the wires while I had the chance. When I reinstalled them, I star tied cable ties ar...

Re: PHS 39 Prop Size
Mine is a 17 x 12, same engine as yours.
I tend to think it doesn't have enough push, cruise is about 5 knots.
I have pics if you want.

Marno
