Re: F33 cutless bearings
Perhaps a bearing with a greater OD fits better into your stern tube. Or use epoxy putty to fill the void around the bearing (use release agent on the outside of the bearing!) As long as your shaft is smooth at the watertight seal on the inside end, a bit of wear wouldn't hurt, i think, although it ...

Re: F33 cutless bearings
Roy, I used to have a UK built F33/35, so there may have been differences. I once replaced the cutlass bearing. As far as I remember, my cutlass bearing was brass on the outside, 6" long, had grub screws and lubrication holes to be lined up with the scoops on the keel sides. Some observations based ...

Salut Pierre-André,
There is an other Canadien on this board, Alain, who has an F39PH. He may be able to comment on your question. A link to the website of his boat: http://naiade5.cyberquebec.ca/
Best,
Michel

Re: My F32 Keel bolts look to be intentionally not tightened
An addition to Brien's suggestion to fill the bilge with water to test for leaks: Although it might give an indication, 1' of water in the bilge does not equal the 2' or 3' of water pressure when the boat is in the water. So if no leaks are found with 1' of water in the bilge, that's still no guaran...

Re: My F32 Keel bolts look to be intentionally not tightened
I can't help you on the issue of the loose keel nuts. About the long aft most bolt with the bonding wire: the only reason I can think of is that they used a long bolt to keep the bonding wire connection above sump water level at all times to prevent corrosion of the connection between bonding wire t...

Re: F25 RM Running Rigging
Jack, just to make sure, I wouldn't assume anything, not even the lengths given in the list. And perhaps you want some of the running rigging to be longer than the list suggests. I would measure my existing lines and decide if I'm happy with length and diameter. Diameter is also influenced by the fi...

Re: How far forward of 90° can the boom go?
Letting the boom out forward of the mast was a concept developed by Garry Hoyt for the wraparound wishbone catketches. Straight booms and goosenecks are designed for shrouded slooprigs where letting out the main sail forward of the mast is impossible. Depending on gooseneck and sailtrack and slide c...

Re: Freedom 33/35 cat rigged ketch
Andrew, I had an F33/35 UK built for several years, with aluminium masts. My experience is that they are more flexible than the carbon fiber masts. Due to the tube-in-tube construction of the lower part of the mast, the flexing part of the aluminum masts is higher up. I see no problems with using a ...

Re: 1986 F36 converting to walkthrough transom
I agree with Kerry Nevins, especially point 3 is noteworthy. The stiffness of a hull is for a large part derived from its bath tub or box shape. Take for instance a rectangular plastic fridge storage box (curver etc.) and feel the torsional and bending rigidity both in length and width. Now cut out ...

Re: Freedom 44 'Alabama Queen' for sale
Guys, Thanks for all your heartwarming comments. Just that will keep me hanging around here either with or without my own boat. About yachtworld and other commercial brokerage sites: I am listed here in the NL's but haven't seen any movement. I feel that a prospective new owner is more likely to com...
