Re: Advice sought on Freedom 35 Cat Ketch as bluewater boat
There is a lot of debate about what makes for a "blue water" capable sailboat. On one end you could look at the new Golden Globe race requirements, only tried and true bulletproof heavy displacement boats will qualify. At the other, Webb Chiles sailing a Moore 24 around the world - 30,000 nautical m...

Re: Camber spar
This latest question re topping lift length is timely for me. I singlehand so going up to the mast to fuss with the main for whatever reason requires the boat to be on the AP and it just does its thing. Meanwhile I am up there in a seaway holding on for dear life with my arm wrapped around the mast ...

Fuel fill F30
You all know we have deck plates for fuel fill. I never fill from a dock, always from a jug. I transfer using one of those shaker siphons. I only have an 11 gallon tank so no biggie and its easy to carry spare fuel. The problem is water getting through the plate. I have replaced the o ring multiple ...

Re: Replace Exhaust Elbow? - Freedom 30
Welcome fellow F30 sailor. You have just purchased the world's best sailboat! Coincidentally my first sailboat with a cabin was also Freedom 25 (wing mast). In Seychelles of all places. The elbow is very very simple. Go to a hardware store and buy a galvanized pipe elbow of the correct diameter (I t...

Re: Battery oops
Good question. I have often wondered this as well. I have a start/house bank isolator switch with a xantrex echo charger keeping the start charged. The house is charged directly from the alternator. My Blues Seas isolation switch allows the start and house to be joined together if one or the other s...

Re: Seacock failure
After spending hours online and speaking with Camino (one of our FY colleagues who replaced a Marelon seacock while afloat), I got the confidence to attempt a repair while in the water. I used a hard rubber plug to stopper the thru hull from the outside (had to do a dive for this) and purchased a Gr...

Re: F28 keel Bolts
Yikes! That sounds like a complex repair. Amazing what can be done when you put your mind to it. I have a 30, although all my keel bolts are nice and shiny and the sump stays dry at the dock, I do typically get 1/4 inch of H2O accumulation over time at sea. Even so, I try hard to keep it dry. But I ...

Re: Small leak
I just replaced a seal in the Lasdrop fitted in my F30. Couple of notes: You are lucky you have room for the spare seal. I do not, nor room at all in from of the lasdrop face. Boat has to come out to replace. I was having some leakage before the replacement and after the replacement I wound up havin...
