Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe

I have F40/40 #16 tall rig. My main halyard snapped 2 days ago in light wind. I am blaming it on the halyard being 13 years old (my bad), but will have my rigger check the hardware at the masthead tomorrow when he goes up to replace the halyard. However, I have been having a chafe problem with my ji...

Re: Haliard wear in outer covering

18 years is a long time for halyard life expectancy

Re: Camber spar too long?

It took me a few years to figure this out on my 40/40 #16. I attach the camberspar to the aft/mast end of the the camberspar first, raise the jib, run a small heavy twine through the grommets to the bow rail, pulling the sail forward until I can get the bolts through the grommets and metal clip. The...

Re: New sails

Anthony,

I am looking at new sails for me Freedom 40/40 #16. Was quoted $9,500 for both sails. Do you mind me asking what quotes you received? If you mind, simply ignore this posting

Re: Camberspar storage

I have a Freedom 40/40. I have a halyard which clips to the hardware on the mast end of the camberspar. As soon as I release the jib halyard as I am taking down the jib, I fully tighten the jib sheet as tight as it will go. The camberspar then automatically assumes an upright position. I then go for...

Re: Restoring modified Freedom 45 CC to self-tending jib?

Tony, I have had 40/40 #16 (1995) for 13 seasons on Lake Ontario with the original camberspar rigging. I have no experience with a furling jib on the 40/40. I do love the way it sails. Do you mean that you are having a problem sailing off the wind with your current roller furling jib, or that you th...

Re: vang attachment to boom on 40/40

Paul,

Thank you for your reply. Mine are definitely rivets. Changing to machine screws is one option for me to consider. The other loops look ok, but will check again.

Camino,

Thanks for the drill/tap thoughts.

vang attachment to boom on 40/40

The point at which vang attaches to my boom has 10 rivets hold it in place, 3 fore of the attachment plate (2nd photo) and 7 aft (first photo). The three fore rivets are partway out. Of the 7 aft, 3 are gone, one is slightly out, and the other 3 look as they should. See attached photos. Since most o...

Re: port light screens

I bought one and installed it this weekend. It was an exact match, so I am buying 4 more, since the old ones fall out very easily.

I have jury rigged them the last few years by covering the rubber part of the old screens with white vinyl tape, which helps, but they still fall out at times.
