Re: How do I Install a Jib on the Camber Spar?

I have a sister ship of Geoff's Blue Jacket 40/40 (1995 #16) with original Haarstick sails. The first many years, each spring I struggled installing the camberspar. I thought I tried everything. I tried attaching the tack roller onto the forestay first, but could not get the foot end horns into the ...

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

I have a 40/40, sister ship to Geoff's, and use in boom blocks . I use two reef lines. The sail and boom are set up to add a 3rd reef point, but if the wind is that strong, I find it best to just drop the main altogether. I am not sure how you can equalize the tension on the clew and tack without th...

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

I do one reef at about 18kt winds, two at about 22-23kt, and drop the main at about 25. Anything else is just uncomfortable. My reefing system works very well, is very easy to operate.

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

I can pull mine out the end of the boom as well. The key to that is having long enough lines on the mast side of the blocks so you can pull the blocks far enough aft to get at them. As I posted above, try replacing the reef lines with new line and it may run more smoothly. I found that the new lines...

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

Rick, "There is a short 3/8" line that goes thru the forward end of the cable block and is tied to a chock on the starboard side of the mast." The above was a typo. I meant to state that it is tied to a chock on the starboard side of the boom, not the mast. I will look at the setup more closely the ...

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

My outhaul is is comprised of a cable from clew, thru one of the four pulley's at the aft end of my boom, into the mast to a block (the block is at least 2/3 of the way forward). There is a short 3/8" line that goes thru the forward end of the cable block and is tied to a chock on the starboard side...

Re: Camberspar

Yes, there is one just off my dock in 10 feet of water at Navy Point Marina in Sackets Harbor if you need one. I now have another one in use and three spares. Now I always make sure I secure it to the boat with a string before doing anything with it.
Correction: one in use and two spares

Re: Reefing Blocks in Boom

I was just perusing the forums and came across this discussion. Not sure if anyone is still interesting in ths subject, but I'll trow in my 2 cents. I have a '95 F40/40 with the two line reef system with butterfly blocks for each of two reefs, and the outhaul cable all in the boom. I had trouble wit...
